OUR 7-DAY ITINERARY IN MAURITIUS

Never heard of Mauritius? I didn’t know this paradise until I met my husband 5 years ago. I think mostly in Asia, Mauritius is not really that famous compared to the Maldives, but to Europeans, it is especially French folks. Mauritius is located in the southwest part of the Indian Ocean, north of the Tropic of Capricorn. The island of Mauritius lies 855 kilometers east of Madagascar, about 2400 kilometers southeast of Africa mainland, and about 3,900 kilometers southwest of India. People there speak French, English, and Creole. Below are our Ultimate 7-Day Itinerary in Mauritius.

  • Day 3- Transfer from Ile Aux Cerfs to Shangri La’s Le Tousserok (by boat) and driving to Le Morne and settling in Dinnarobin Beachcomber Hotel
  • Day 4– Explore the Black River Gorges National park as well as the Seven Colored Earth in Chamarel.

7-Day Itinerary in Mauritius

We landed at 09:10am by Emirates Flight EK701 from Dubai, the A380 Emirates flight was comfortable and we managed to get few hours of sleep. Immigration was a bit chaotic with a long queue for approx. 30/45 min standing in the queue.

In order to have flexibility, we decided to rent a car, we rented through OLA Mauritius Car Rental, so far they were the cheapest for approx. 250 euro for a week. At the airport one of the representatives from Ola will meet you and take you to the car to do the checking and paper things. Please note that in Mauritius they drive on the left-hand side of the road. Normally the cars there are small but the roads are very narrow as well. We fuelled up a full tank in Plaine Magnien just outside at the airport and managed to reach Shangri La’s Le Touessrok within 1 hour only (refer the map to see our trip).

For the Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok experience, if you want to know how we find our stay just click the link, Mauritius Trip: Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa

Tips:

  • Onboard, make sure to get and fill up the forms for immigration to avoid the hassles at the airport.
  • I suggest having the phone number of the person from Ola who will welcome you as they are not having a dedicated kiosk such as the other rental cars, especially when you return the car its good to have his phone details.
  • Better withdraw local currency at the airport.

Day 2: Transfer from Shangri La’s Le Tousserok to Ile Aux Cerfs (by boat)

Ile Aux Cerfs Golf Club Jetty

For the Bubble Lodge, you will have to pay in full for the room in advance once you booked. The jetty of the Shangri La Tousserok Hotel serviced to Ilot Mangenie as well as the Ile aux Cerfs. We left our car and luggage in the Shangri La’s Le Tousserok to avoid carrying too many things to the Bubble Lodge. After 2 stops and 10 minutes of a boat ride, you will reach the nice jetty at the Ile Aux Cerfs Golf Club. From there, the dedicated team will take care of you for your memorable experience. I highly recommend adding Bubble Lodge to your 7-Day Itinerary in Mauritius.

For the Bubble Lodge Ile Aux Cerfs Experience, I made a separate blog just click the link in case you wanted to know more.

Tips:

  • Please note the internet connection is limited to Plage des Flibustiers and the Main Golf Reception.
  • You can enjoy more at beach Plage des Flibustiers from 18:00-9:00 where the beach is dedicated only to the Bubble Lodge guests.
  • If you played golf, I suggest, to take the 18 holes rather than the 1-hour lesson (which is included on the package), so you can visit its beautiful landscape.
  • Arrive early at diner and breakfast so you can choose your table especially during sunset. It was lovely!

Day 3: Transfer from Ile Aux Cerfs to Shangri La’s Le Tousserok (by boat) and driving to Le Morne and settling settling in Dinnarobin Beachcomber Hotel

7-Day Itinerary in Mauritius

The longest drive we had during this trip, it took us 2hr15min to reach Le Morne, even if the GPS estimated for like 1hr45min. Lots of school buses on the way starting 14:30 so it made the trip a bit longer also including some traffic jams near Quatre Bornes.

For the Dinnarobin BeachComber experience please find the link attached. Make sure to read my honest review first before adding this hotel to your 7-day Itinerary in Mauritius.

Tips:

  • To avoid getting lost, take the road going back to the airport and then follow the coast to Le Morne, which might be 15/20 min more, but less headache if you do not have GPS.
  • There are few small fruit vendors by the road that is worth to try.

Day 4: Explore the Black River Gorges National park as well as the Seven Colored Earth in Chamarel

itinerary in mauritius

Interesting drive into the mountain with very narrow roads, you can see our trip on the attached map. For the Black River Gorges National park as well as the Seven Colored Earth in Chamarel, I made a separate post of the Activities to do in Le Morne.

Tips: If you do not fancy trekking or not into long driving, I suggest that you just go to Chamarel and viewpoint of the Black River Gorges National Park.

Day 5: Snorkeling around Le Paradis Beachcomber Spot 1 and Horse riding by the beach.

Snorkeling Spot

Tips:

  • Snorkeling has to be booked in advance at the hotel concierge.
  • Do not forget to take sun cream, water and a towel (even if it is a 5-star hotel, you have to plan for those)
  • For Horseriding, I suggest that you go early in the morning in order to bathe the horses or during sunset is also good.

Day 6- Climbing Le Morne mountain with Allan, and recovery massage in the afternoon at the SPA Dinnarobin Beachcomber.

Trekking to Le Morne Mountain

Activities to do in Le Morne have to be booked in advance at the hotel concierge. I suggest asking the hotel to book you with Allan from Local Spirit Mauritius he is a true nature lover who grew up in Le Morne. His passion and dedication were one of a kind. Climbing Le Morne mountain is a mix of the easy trail at the beginning and more difficult/advanced from the middle. If you have kids (less than 5 years old), I recommend doing only the easy way up to the start of the difficult part, you will already have a very nice view on the surroundings of Le Morne.

Beachcomber SPA

Tips:

  • Start as early as possible. I recommend a pick-up time at 6:30 from the hotel.
  • Be careful to loose gravel and other groups who hike without a guide, as they might not aware of some danger and can create a danger to other trekkers.
  • Better go with a guide.
  • Take a hat, sun cream the easy trail is mainly at the shadow, but the difficult part is exposed to the sun. Water will be provided by your guide.

Day 7: Snorkeling around Le Paradis Beachcomber Spot 2 and enjoying the pool then transfer to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport

Snorkeling Spot 2

The drive for us to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport was long due to road blockage in Bois Cherie which made us do a detour. Our flight departure EK704 with Emirates was at 23:05 however, considering the roads we preferred to leave the hotel by 16:30 in order to have daylight.
Please refer attached map.

Tips:

  • I suggest that you take the road by the coast, a bit longer but no surprises normally. For safety reasons, drive during the day.
  • Immigration and scanning have a big queue, do not leave the last minute.
  • Check your credit card and if you have “LoungeKey” access, it gives you access to 2 Lounges at the Airport and 4 Lounges access in Dubai Terminal 1.
